With the closed blow-off valve, the measured values of the air mass meter are not distorted. The hissing occurs only with open blow-off valves, as they let out the boost pressure. Here it does not come to the typical hiss. The blow-off valve directs the boost pressure of the turbocharger, which arises when leaving the gas pedal and the throttle valve wants to back into the intake. But what does the blow-off valve really do and what exactly does it do? What variations are there and what are pros and cons.įor one thing, there are closed systems. But many have only half knowledge about it. It is currently a very much desired tuning part. Here you should first know what a blow-off valve is. Even with oversized turbochargers may cause a turbo flutter, since the engine is not able to burn the entire amount of air at low speeds. The paddle wheel of the turbocharger is braked and moved in the other direction. When the pressure in the intercooler increases with the pressure in the turbocharger, the air is forced back through the turbocharger inlet. If the engine is unable to burn the entire amount of air that comes through the turbocharger, the excess air is built up in the intercooler. When there is excess pressurized air in the turbocharger system, turbo flapping occurs, which is also called compressor surge. The bearings cannot withstand the heavy loads for long and break prematurely. Braking puts extreme stress on the bearings. ![]() Braking the paddle wheel generates the typical “fluttering” noises. Of course, it has to be slowed down first. The paddle wheel is rotated in a different direction during turbo fluttering or turbo flutter. The air pressure moving in the other direction, which is returned through the turbo inlet, creates a condition called turbo fluttering. In this case, the excess charge air is drained through the turbocharger. If the diverter valve is broken, the turbocharger makes a noticeable noise and that Pop-off valve flutters. ![]() The excess charge air is blown out via a hose, which leads to a hissing noise. The opening of the diverter valve via vacuum sucks charge air. I also do not think it could be the actual wastegate spring in the turbo as the car is on a completely stock tune (no piggyback).TECHART Clubsport Upgrade for all Porsche 911 Coupés! 15 June 2023 If anyone has an answer to this or can educate me on this subject it would be much appreciated. I am going swap back to the OEM diverter valve, however I am about out of answers after that. I didn't see anything wrong with the O rings on the BOV, and everything looked fine with all of the intake components. Last night I took off my turbo inlet pipe, turbo inlet elbow, and my BOV. I am assuming I have a boost leak, however I don't know why there would be turbo flutter at WOT? I am new to modding, and just looking to learn more. I bought a 2019 gti and recently I notice when at WOT there is a slight turbo flutter and it feels like there is a loss of power as well. : Turbo was replaced under warranty a couple months back. The car is going into the dealer on Tuesday, most likely getting. ![]() U041600 : Invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control P226100 : turbo boost pressure not detected mechanically I have been on a stock tune the whole time and car is just nearing 6,800 miles Along with that I found a little shaft play in the compressor wheel. The wastegate is loose, and I assume staying open constantly. So I decided to take my downpipe off today. UPDATE: the surge got worse, And I had a loud spooling noise that sounded like it was coming from the DV (it was a very unique spool sound not just intake noise. Is there any way this could be related to the turbo inlet elbow not sealing all the way? The car is stock tune as I said, has 4,200 miles, and the only mods I've done so far are: I also do not think it could be the actual wastegate spring in the turbo as the car is on a completely stock tune (no piggyback).
